Meet Florine Duif, Owner of Florineduif.com where she combines her love for fashion with lifestyle journalism- and CEO of TheMompany.com: a full service website for (first time) moms. How would you describe your own personal style?
On one hand I’m a little bit like Camelia Cranciunescu Huls, with all the colors, fake furs and crazy objects, on the other hand I’m a bit like Franca Sozzani. Maybe not style wise, but I admire her in a way that she exactly knew (she passed away last year) how to transform political problems into fashion. Wow, this woman!
I also try to invest in Sustainable brands and not to buy this fast fashion trends. I rather invest in one good coat, pair of jeans or shoes than buying a lot. No, the fashion industry is complicated, but If we keep on buying, buying, buying, the world will be totally screwed within a couple of decades. And my kids have to grow up in it… That’s not good.
Wat was your favorite maternity brand?
Hatch & Séraphine. Defenitely. Oh and – but that was after I gave birth – I discovered Womom the label. You really should check it out. Coolest ever.
How would your friends describe you in 10 words?
Asking this in the WhatsApp group – it takes long before they answer, hmmm: ‘Sweet, funny, creative, dreamer, charming, ambitious, thinker, openminded, intelligent, go-getter (although I hate this word).’ Sweet friends I have! But I’m sure they hated my bossiness back in the days ;).
How did you experience your pregnancy?
My first one was amazing. I felt so good, my skin looked good, I was dancing on high heels 2 days before I gave birth. So I thought ‘Well this second one will be amazing too.’ Na-uh, think again, The second one was horrible. Seriously, the only thing I could say was: never again, never again, never again. I was so sick and mallow all the time. I didn’t have a good relationship with my hormones this time. I looked good though, so people thought I was just a sour pregnant woman. But from the inside it was a mess. Nothing was fun, I even couldn’t enjoy music. But… The moment Lexie got out, I said to Sebastiaan ‘Can we have another baby, babe?’ Everything was so different. It’s weird to describe, but it was all clear. The ‘mallow’ feeling was gone, I was happy again. It’s so strange how these hormones work and that you can have totally different pregnancies. Even with two girls.
What is/was your pregnancy craving?
Spa rood and Mango. Oh and ‘Bosbessendrop’, but I still have that craving. It’s the best. Did you ever have it?
Did you change your beauty regime since you became a mom?
Definitely! My skin has changed so much. I had a pregnancy mask and all those zits, mama mia, that wasn’t pretty! Before my pregnancies I was a very basic girl, according to skincare. Just Bioderma and day cream, all from the French Apothecaries, but I’m getting more and more interested in good beauty regimes nowadays. I use a vitamin A treatment from Environ everyday now and I have special eye masks for those dark circles. You know, the ones you get when you become a mom. But I also try to watch my diet. Vegatables and water are so important for your skin. And good fats! I have a lot of supplements at home. On the other hand: we’re all getting older, and as long as you can embrace it, you look beautiful.
Did you do any reading during your pregnancy? What is the best pregnancy book?
Actually I was tired. So I listened to a lot of pregnancy podcasts.
Can you describe the interior of the room of your Kids in terms of style and theme? Are there any specific brands you used to decorate?
It’s a big, light room and they are sleeping together in one room now. So it’s Isabel’s bed, a moses basket for Lexie, paintings on the wall and a lot of toys. Isabel is really girly and you can see that in her room. Although I wanted my house to be decluttered and tidy, I can say it isn’t. But that’s okay, I mean, with kids you’ll have this. They need to play.
Top 3 destinations to shop for your kids

Your favorite restaurant and what to order there?
I’m still in love with Café Gitane in New York and than ordering the famous avocado toast. I tried do make it myself at home, but of courses it didn’t taste as good as it was there.
Your favorite drink?
I really can enjoy a good glass of wine. For the rest I like water and green tea.
The best baby gift you got?
The Sleepyhead I got for my babyshower. The Stokke Tripp Trapp with baby crib. And of course my leopard Artipoppe wrap. Love those things so much, because they’re so useful and I use them quite a lot.
What’s on your wishlist for your kids?
That they become whatever or whoever they want to be. Good, kind people.
The top 3 websites you visit on a daily basis
My own websites, but that’s for work of course. I visit more websites than blogs to be honest. A lot mother websites, like this one. But also HeyMama.co and Mother.ly. For mindstyle I go the Mind Body Green and for fashion I like Vestiaire Collective.
The top 3 Instagram accounts you follow.
Wow, I find new amazing Instagram accounts every day, so I don’t really have a top 3. It’s one big bunch of inspiration.
What is your guilty pleasure?
Jane the Virgin.
Which fashion mom you look at for inspiration?
What inspires you most in life and where do you find creativity?
I think people in general. The whole human interaction is so complex, but on the other hand so interesting. Something inspires me when it touches me. Like my kids. Yeah, kids are really inspiring to me. I’m almost sure kids teach you more than vice verse. They teach us things
What keeps you relaxed in stressful times? Describe your ultimate Me-time moment.
I think it all has to do with mindset. If there will be a stressful moment, I think ‘Okay, no worries, it will all be all right. Take a situation as it comes’. If I am stressed, my kids will be stressed too. Kids are so sensitive. If I have an off day or just wanna cry, I take a really hot shower or bath. Lock the bathroom door and stay there for at least 15 minutes. It calms down, really.
How do you stay healthy? Are there any beauty and lifestyle tips you would like to share?
Food, food and nature. The right food and a walk in the woods have a huge impact on your health. At least on my health. If I eat a lot of sugar, bread and diary, my body doesn’t function well than. I try to eat as clean as possible, drink a lot of tea, eat a lot of greens and go to the beach when I can. Wow, sounds healthy right? But I am also human, so also treating myself. And I meditate.
Which mom would you like to introduce for the next Prêt à pregnant talks with and why?
My friend Rachel van Koesveld. Honestly, we became friends when we both became moms. Motherhood makes friends! The funny thing is, we were on school together, but we weren’t friends. She is a (prenatal) yoga teacher and we made an online nine month yoga course together for The Mompany. You see, you don’t know what life will bring!
And last but not least…… Share the best tip for other mommies.
No one takes care of you, so do it yourself. One day at a time, enjoy your kid(s) as much as you can and don’t stress out. You’re the momb!
