Prêt à Mama talks with Adriana Lima

Adriana Lima needs no introduction – this world renowned supermodel has captivated us for years on runways, countless magazines spreads, and a sea of top ads. Of course, we were curious to know how motherhood has inspired her life, and what, for example, she makes sure to teach her kids and how she and her husband manage to put family first despite demanding careers. Without further adieu, take a glance at our most pressing questions for the lovely Ms. Lima!

Q:You have two beautiful daughters – how has motherhood changed your life?

A: My understanding of busy has certainly changed! My daughters have had an incredible impact on my life and the way I live it. They are a part of every decision I make. They motivate me to be the best me.

Q: As you know, making time for yourself is hard with a career and children – what’s something you do to get away and regroup?

A: When I need a break, a date night with my husband or a night out with girlfriends always does the trick. I am lucky enough to live in Miami so dinner on the beach with people I love is one of my favorite ways to relax. I also love boxing! Working out is calming and helps clear my mind.

Q: The same thing is true for marriage! As a busy mother, what have you learned about relationships with a demanding schedule?

A: It’s important to make one-on-one time whenever possible. Sometimes my husband will surprise me with flowers for no reason. Unexpected romantic gestures are very important and keep things exciting.

Q: It’s a shame how many women lose their sense of self – including style – come motherhood. You always look so beautiful – any advice on how other women can escape the status quo?

A: You don’t have to lose your sense of style once you become a mom! My everyday look has definitely become more low maintenance, but accessories are everything. A structured bag, statement jewelry or a cute scarf can add polish to any outfit!

Q: What are five of your wardrobe staples? Something you can always rely on to feel feminine and confident?

A: Denim cutoffs, sexy lingerie, a bikini, a classic little black dress, and a pair of sky high heels.

Q: You are stunning from head to toe – can you dish on any health or beauty secrets?

A: I’s all about finding balance in your life. I try to maintain a healthy lifestyle, but I have to indulge every now and then! My number one beauty secret is to stay true to yourself and figure out what works best for your body.

Q: What advice can you offer other women on being successful in their career and really getting what they want?

A: Never give up and always believe in yourself. Self-confidence goes a long way and is very attractive to others.

Q: You are Brazilian and your hubby is Serbian – how do you ensure your daughters retain their heritage?

A: We like to honor both of our family traditions whenever possible. We show the girls lots of pictures and tell a lot of stories about both of our childhoods. We also try to teach them both Portuguese and Serbian, though English is their primary language.

Q: What three things do you make sure to teach your children?

A: It is important to me to instill in them a sense of compassion and respect for others. I also want them to always feel confident and free to be themselves. As of now they are still very young so that has come in the form of dress up, make believe and singing songs, but we will always support our girls in their choices and help them to dream big.

Q: Can you name 10 things (in no particular order) you couldn’t live without?

A: Love, my family, my friends, the beach, my passport, chocolate, my jump rope, a great pair of sunglasses, high heels, and laughter always!
